A Path of Faith
Vicky Thompson is not your average person of faith.
“When I’d hear the phrase ‘ye of little faith’ in church, I knew that God had found out my secret and wasn’t pleased,” she says. “My
faith tank has had a slow leak during my entire life.”
Thompson’s quest to find faith began in her late twenties when she was unsuccessful in conceiving a child.
“I had difficulty trusting that I could get pregnant. There’s a certain leap of faith that nature will take its course and conception will occur,”
says Thompson, author of The Jesus Path: 7 Steps to a Cosmic Awakening (Red Wheel/Weiser, $16.95). “My husband and I tried for almost two years as my faith continued to
evaporate. As I lay on the table in the hospital examining room after an infertility treatment, I prayed to God to help me have a child.”
A Miracle of Faith
As she was leaving the hospital, a miracle of faith changed her life.
Thompson was about to unlock her car door when she heard a voice say very clearly, “God wants you to have a child.”
She turned toward the voice, but no one was there.
She sat in her car, thinking about those words: God wants you to have a child. Yes, he does, she thought, and why wouldn’t he want me to have a
child? Of course I can have a child because God wants me to have one. She knew that she would get pregnant that month, and she did.
“I felt faith in that moment because God showed me that my faith was within me all along. I just needed a reminder,” says Thompson.
A Journey of Faith
That reminder encouraged her to go deeper in her journey of faith. She claims no particular denomination as her faith tradition, but she still refers
to herself as a former Catholic on a quest for God. She likes to explore the beliefs of many different religious traditions and attends many churches to experience different
faiths. Thompson calls herself a strong person of faith but not in the traditional sense. Her strong faith comes from directly experiencing the miracle of healing through the power
of connecting with the presence of God’s grace.
“My faith was first challenged when I was a little girl,” says Thompson. “I was sexually abused by my grandfather when I was a child and this
loss of faith continued into my thirties. The teachings of my Catholic upbringing didn’t help in letting go of the pain. I really found my faith when I began praying and
journaling during meditation.”
The birth of her son encouraged Thompson to turn inward to heal the issues of abuse and release the pain of the past. Through meditative journaling,
she began receiving spiritual growth tools, including meditations, prayers, and affirmations, for letting go of old patterns and behaviors in her life.
“Tapping into this inner stream of wisdom required great faith that we are not alone in the universe,” says Thompson. “I had to overcome my
fears about God and allow healing to occur through a strength and wisdom beyond my own.”
As she continued her healing meditations, she was inspired to write mystical stories about the experiences and inner work of Jesus as representations
of how to use the seven-step divine model of awakening in The Jesus Path.
“The mystical stories are inspirational portraits of Jesus, a spiritual everyman who has continued to inspire and guide seekers throughout the ages,”
says Thompson.
The Power of Faith
Thompson has moved from being a person of little faith to a believer in the power of spiritual healing.
“Five years ago, I had no faith in prayer and no belief that God would reach out to me. But desperation to heal the past pushed me to try
spirituality as a source for growth,” she says. “Spiritual faith is always present within us. We only need to remember its power to change our world.”
Today, Thompson is a frequent speaker at spiritual expos nationwide. She has produced a four-CD workshop program, Journey with Spirit, and a
