What is Heaven?

As a child, I often wondered what heaven was like.

My father died when I three, my grandfather passed when I seven, and I heard many stories about the transitions of older relatives that left me wanting to know more about this wondrous place.

Is heaven only for the righteous?

Archangel Michael: Righteous is an interesting word because it implies that you must behave in a certain way for God to love you. It implies that you must be good or God will send you to a lesser place where you must pay penance for your ill deeds. Righteousness is better suited to describe life on Earth than reunion in heaven.

Heaven is the home source of love for all beings living in body on Earth. You are connected to your higher spirit-self through your soul energy lines, which look like thin strands of light. When you pray or meditate, you open up your intuitive connection with the inner wisdom of the higher spirit-self. So a part of you, which is your higher spirit-self, currently resides in the heavenly realms to support your earthly experience. How can you be denied reunion with your higher spirit-self when you are still currently connected? So in answer to your question, heaven is home to all and all return to heaven.

When a beloved older uncle died, I overheard my grandmother say that she saw wisps white light rise from his chest, like doves soaring into the heavens. As a child, I couldn't help but wonder what is this light and where does it go?

Growing up Catholic, I was told that heaven is only for the worthy. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, heaven is the special dwelling place of God, Christ, angels, saints, and the righteous. It is a place of abiding where those who lived virtuous lives on Earth are justly rewarded for their good works in the hereafter. Entry into this eternal place of happiness is the ultimate reward for mortals who embrace a moral code of living.

Even as a child, this answer didn't completely satisfy me. The image of doves rising to heaven has held me captive, leading me to believe that heaven is a deeper place of love and healing. Through meditation and prayer, I've sought guidance about this heavenly place of light, and I was blessed by the spiritual words of Archangel Gabriel flowing into my consciousness.

A Message from Archangel Gabriel

Heaven is a place of light and great love. It is not a place like a church or a synagogue or a mosque. Heaven is a realm of being that is free from the physical constraints of life on Earth. It's like a dream world, where the pure energy of creation flows freely and fully. There is no time, no here nor there, no you nor me. It is just energy flowing directly from the source of God's love, infinite and always changing form, supporting the wonders of creation.

It's hard to put into human words what the feeling of heaven is like. Imagine yourself as a baby wrapped in the softest blanket, gently being rocked by a loving mother. This lulling, this sweet embrace, is your only concern. It's a state of total contentment in the moment, knowing only that your conscious thoughts exist because you are aware of the total and complete sensation of love flowing through you. You are love, and you know that you only exist to be, feel, know, share, and revel in the love of your creator. One might call this bliss, another may recognize it as peace, and some may say it's pure happiness. Whatever you call this state of totality, it stems from love in its divine form.

I will guide you to remembering your eternal connection in A Prayer for Blessed Reunion.

What is the light and where does it go, you ask. Your soul is the divine juice that powers your human body. When you die, your soul leaves the human vessel to return in totality to your divine spirit, which waits in ready anticipation for this grand reunion. It's as if you've sent your young self off to college, and your older and much wiser self waits with great expectation for the day when you return, ready to share the gifts of all that you learned. Heaven is the realm of reunion with your divine higher spirit-self. The soul light that empowered your human existence returns, embraced by the light of your divine self. That moment, that enveloping, holds the most indescribable sweetness you'll ever experience. That moment of merging alone is worth any pain you may have endured during human life itself.

So light returns to light. Love returns to love. Wisdom returns to wisdom. And life continues in eternal light. Heaven is that glorious place of light, greater than you could ever dream or imagine. It's home, dear one, it's home.
